I knew I liked boys when I was in 5th grade, but it wasn't until college that I finally admitted that I was gay. Afterwards, I started coming out to friends. I came out to my mother during my 2nd year, but it didn't go smoothly and there was a lot of frustration on both sides. For a long time, I would usually spend time outside, participating in gay sports and doing meaningful things, but back home I grew more and more reserved, and disliked taking part in family gatherings. A decade later, and my world has become split into two halves, like I'm living this "double-sided" life, where I am increasingly unhappy. With the help of a therapist,I have slowly been able to differentiate between my parents' expectations of me and what I want. With the promotion of the gay movement in Taiwan the past few years, I have been more encouraged and determined to come out to my family, by way of using Facebook. After doing this, I can be myself around my family, and at last, feel that the world is becoming one again.
